June 29: Bahrain authorities continue suppressing peaceful demonstrations and targeting religious places
BCHR said that peaceful protesters today on Shakhura roundabout were attacked by security forces with excessive tear gas that also covered the cars and commercial outlets in the nearby areas.1 This demonstration was called by the political societies but the government said it is illegal without giving genuine reason. Ministry of Interior declared that such protest will make traffic while the crackdown itself caused damages on above of jammed traffic. The villages on Budayya highway were filled with toxic gasses as protesters were trying to join the protesters on Shakhura Roundabout.2 Protesters were arrested as the police chased them in Shakhura. 3
The Security forces used the internationally forbidden shotgunt with intention of causing harm to the peaceful protesters in the villsages.4 Civilian houses were raided and citizens were assaulted and brutally beaten. 5 BCHR documented that the reporter Reem Khalifa was shot with stun grenade although she wasn’t covering the protest as she was heading to her car in the park in Alwasatnews building where she works. Mazin Mahdi, another reporter, was detained for short time as well.
Clear video showed how security forces targeted religious place in the village of Aali and women inside suffocated accordingly. 6 On the same line, the authorities caused a fire in Shaikh Maitham Mosque in Karzakan by shooting tear gas canisters on it. 7
