When 54 yr old Mahdiya AbdulHussain saw the riot police brutally beating the son of one of her neighbors, she ran towards them
She tells me "He's from our village, he is our son. I cudnt leave him with the riot police. They have no mercy" #Bahrain
Mahdiya walked to the riot police and started to shout at them "let him go, stop beating him" #Bahrain
maybe Mahdiya did not think they wud leave him, but she also did not expect what happened next #Bahrain
One of the masked riot police, without a word, shot at Mahdiya with teargas, he shot at her in the chest. #Bahrain
Mahdiya was taken to hospital, docs were v. worried about blood clotting, & told her it was miraculous she did not break any ribs
Mahdiya is still in pain, she is back home now. Physically she is better, but she also suffers from a diff. kind of pain #Bahrain
Maybe what made this 54yr old try to save the man from the hands of the riot police, is that he reminded her of her own two sons #Bahrain
Her older son Isa, is a political prisoner detained in Dry Dock for the past 4 months #Bahrain
her younger son, Mohammed is serving a 1 year sentence in Jaw prison for illegal gathering #Bahrain
To be suffering in prisons of dictators, to live the injustice & then to hear that ur mother was shot in the chest by riot police #Bahrain
Mohd who is 19 was not told abt the incident by his family, but heard from other political prisoners. #Bahrain
I cud tell Mahdiya was holding back tears as she told me how upset Mohd was when he called her #Bahrain
